Key Counseling has been established to provide professional counseling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and families from Longboat Key, Sarasota and Bradenton. Services include treatment for a variety of conditions including depression, anxiety, divorce, stress management, relationship issues, weight management and chronic illness. Key Counseling is also highly experienced and qualified in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder

Counseling can be helpful for individuals experiencing significant emotional and psychological difficulty and for individuals who are going through challenging everyday life situations such as divorce, chronic illness, retirement or career changes. Someone might consider counseling after they have exhausted other efforts to improve their situation or when those around them are suggesting that they might benefit from professional help.

Philosophy and Approach

As the founder of Key Counseling, Elizabeth Cupo incorporates a holistic approach to counseling using cognitive, behavioral and psychodynamic techniques, in addition to bibliotherapy, meditation, music therapy and art therapy. Although she is well trained in cognitive and psychodynamic methods, she does not adhere to a specific routine approach with clients. This allows her to address the uniqueness of each individual and situation.

Professional Experience

Elizabeth Cupo began her counseling career working with adolescents and young adults in the high school and college settings. Following her work with adolescents, and upon moving to Florida, she pursued her licensure in clinical counseling. As a clinical counselor she has worked extensively with combat veterans at a Veterans Center, and with the chronically ill at The Wellness Community. In addition, she has worked in a public agency setting helping couples and families. Her work experience is broad enabling her to understand and assist with a variety of mental health problems. She works with clients age 12 and above.

Participation in a support group may be offered depending on availability.

Credentials and Education

Elizabeth Cupo has a master’s degree in counseling. She is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed School Guidance Counselor. In addition to working as a therapist at Key Counseling, she is an adjunct professor at Manatee Community College.
